The 1950 Census
The US Census has its origins in Article I, Section 2 of the US Constitution which mandates an enumeration of the population every 10 years in order to determine the apportionment of members in the House of Representatives. The first census took place in 1790 and has been taken every decade since. Due to privacy concerns, federal law restricts the availability of census records for 72 years.
